First Communion & First Reconciliation Resources

Congratulations! You have successfully enrolled your child in 1st Communion and 1st Reconciliation classes.

Please take a moment to bookmark this page of resources.

Classes will be held Wednesday evenings from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM.

Our goal is to prepare your child to receive these two sacraments that will be their constant companions through their journey of life, but we recognize the wisdom that “Parents are the Primary educators in the faith” (General Directory of Catechesis 255). “[The family] is the natural community that God gave us so that children could be educated, first and foremost, by their parents. By taking their responsibilities as educators seriously, parents not only contribute to the welfare of their children, but also to the common good of society at large.” (Compendium of Social Doctrine of the Church, 238).

Our invitation to you is to commit even more fully to your role as educator in this time of sacramental preparation. Now, if your first reaction to this invitation is a feeling of inadequacy to teach the faith, know that you are not alone. Many parents feel this way.

You may find it helpful to focus not on teaching the faith, but on living the faith. Children learn by example. Let them see and participate in your prayer life. Explore new ways to pray together (Rosary, Chaplet of Devine Mercy, Lectio Divina, Noneva). Help your child write a letter to a homebound parishioner and pray for them. Attend Mass. Ask your child what is something special you, as a family, can do for a food bank or homeless shelter. Talk about your faith journey and what a relationship with Jesus means to you personally. Living the faith is teaching the faith.

Take some time to plan how you will make this journey to the sacraments of reconciliation and the eucharist a life changing experience for your child. Here are a couple resources to get you started:
