Godparent Selection Information
- Godparents are to be chosen by the parents or guardians
- You may choose 1 or 2 Godparents. If you choose two, one must be male and the other female.
- They are to be at least sixteen years old
- They must be Catholics who have already been Confirmed and have received Holy Eucharist
- They should be practicing Catholics, living in harmony with the faith
- Godparents must have the intention of carrying out the duty
- They must not be the father or mother of the child to be baptized
Non-Catholic Christian Witness
You must have at least 1 Godparent that matches the qualifications above. In addition to this Godparent, you may also invite 1 non-Catholic Christian Witness. This is a person baptized in a non-Catholic church. He or she may participate in the baptism but is not formally called a Godparent. Their title is Christian Witness.
